Help promote literacy in eastern Tibet. With little to no access to books, libraries, and other extracurricular educational materials, children and parents in rural areas in Tibet, are challenged to find ways to bolster literacy and develop engaged interest in reading in Tibetan.
Open doors to opportunities. By supporting access to knowledge through higher learning, we nurture Tibetans' agency to transmit knowledge back to their communities, which radiates out to promote a more informed community and increased cultural pride, including in language use and literacy.
Making world literature accessible to Tibetan readers. Elie Wiesel’s Night. Pride and Prejudice. John Steinbeck, Toni Morrison, Chinua Achebe. Autobiographies, western classics, essays, self-help, and modern fiction. These are just some of the books, authors, and genres the 108 Translations Project seeks to make accessible to Tibetan readers.
